Payments

  • Can I take part of a payment now and the rest later?

Yes. Record any amount against an invoice; the balance stays open for the remainder and the invoice reports as partly paid. Deposits and staged payments do not need a separate document. Part payment is something you record — a customer paying online pays the full outstanding balance, because the share page has no field for a smaller amount.

  • How can customers pay me?

You record payments taken however you take them — Cash, Card terminal, Bank transfer, e-Transfer, Cheque, Online payment or Other, which is a fixed list you pick from rather than one you extend. Where online payments are set up, a customer can also pay an invoice by card from its share page. Either way the payment is recorded against the invoice, so the balance and status update together rather than being reconciled later.

  • Let customers pay online

Connecting a payout account lets customers pay an invoice from its share page by card, with no account needed on their side. Payments made that way are recorded against the invoice automatically — a webhook backs up the confirmation, so it still lands if the customer closes the tab — and the balance and the payment status move together instead of being reconciled later. Online payment is a per-invoice switch that only appears once the payout account is connected and active.

  • Record a payment, or a deposit

Record a payment against an invoice using any of the payment methods your organization has set up. Part payments are normal: the balance stays open for the remainder and the invoice reports as partially paid, so deposits and staged payments do not need a separate document. The amount cannot exceed what is still outstanding — “Payment amount exceeds the invoice balance” means you are entering more than the balance due. A recorded payment cannot be edited afterwards; cancel or refund it and record it again.
